In Greek mythology, Icarus' ambition led to his literal downfall when he flew too close to the sun and melted his wax wings. Yes, being too ambitious does have its drawbacks, but also a lack of it. Immortals Fenyx Rising, for example, offers a light and entertaining twist to Greek mythology that is clearly inspired by a reverence for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The environment, systems and story are chock-full of references to iconic gods and legendary tales, but always planted with tongue firm enough in the jaws to prevent it from being important on its own. All of these fragrances provide a wonderful setup complemented by fun battles, but the puzzle design in this colorful open world is disappointingly workable. In a game about heavenly gods and fantastic monsters, the mysteries are far too based on earthly concerns.
Immortals' most inventive touch is the storytelling. The journey of Fenyx, a mortal soldier who suffered shipwreck on a mystical island, is presented with a story told by a captive Prometheus to Zeus, and the dynamics between the two are hilarious. The couple's chattering narrative is regularly touched by your approximately 30-hour-long adventure, which helps promote the plot, provide mythological context, or simply crack jokes. And furthermore, Immortals does an effective job of balancing the focus on humor with story-driven character development.
The main story revolves around a rough monster Typhon, who was once imprisoned by Zeus, but is now free and has decided to destroy the Gods forever. Typhon also interferes regularly when traveling in the Golden Island environment, so you're not too happy to help. The four gods changed by this monster - Aphrodite, Hefaistos, Ares and Athena. The battle is certainly fun, but not difficult unless you decide to have a legendary encounter before biting.
